Media Circus

Japanese actor Kenji Haga and his new bride Mayu give an interview to the Japanese media in the front of Central Union's Sanctuary yesterday. Haga is known in the US for his role as Ken in the "Street Fighter" movie series. The wedding drew camera crews from five Japanese televison networks and several press photographers. The wedding ceremony was covered by Nippon Television and Fuji Television, and a few select photographers. A bunch of fans flocked to the church to catch a glimpse of Mr. & Mrs. Haga, but kept their distance.

The Japanese media are also here in Honolulu to cover Japanese celebrites arriving here for New Year's celebrations and vacations. It's annual event in which I have been a part of for the past 16 years. The TV footage is normally shown on morning shows, in an "Entertainment Tonight"-type feature.

Suspended

One of my favorite types of shots are suspending droplets of water in mid-air using a high-speed shutter. I got this one from the fountain that fronts the downtown 24-Hour Fitness at 1/1000sec.

1st Orchid Blossom

The 1st flower to bloom from an orchid plant I "adopted" from a neighbor on my floor, who no longer wanted it.

When I took it in, the plant looked malnourished, but after a few days of watering, it sprang back to life. New shoots sprang up, and one branch emerged with six buds from the tallest stem. This is the first of the six pack to bloom. All the while, I nurtured my plant, I often wondered what colors the flowers would be ... now I know.

Runway 8R Sunset

The sun sets behind Honolulu International's Runway 8R (a.k.a. The Reef Runway) with some really interesting cloud formations. I had to get this one with an airliner (an Aloha Airlines 737-200) making its final approach to Runway 4R. I could not resist! :-)
