Kapu means "forbidden" in Hawaiian. This sign is on the grounds of the Aloha Ke ‘Akua wedding chapel, and is flanked by the Kahalu‘u Fish Pond, which is part of the Wong Estate.
Along coastal areas, ancient native Hawaiians made fish ponds with rocks to naturally enclose areas for their food supply. A limited number of these ponds exist along rural areas of each island.
