Kukuiho‘olua Island

Kukuiho‘olua Island, located off of the Lā‘ie Point State Wayside Park, is known for the hole in the middle of the island. Trying to access the island is not advised, as the surface is jagged rocks like the shoreline in the foreground, as well as the strong tides in the area.

Queen Lili‘uokalani Statue

The statue for Queen Lili‘uokalani stands outside the Capitol Building, and near ‘Iolani Palace (behind her left arm). She was the last reigning monarch of the Kingdom of Hawai‘i, before she was overthrown, and Hawai‘i was annexed as a territory of the United States.

Calm Tidepool

On the east end of Nimitz Beach, is a large tidepool that keeps beachgoers, especially children, safe from the waves, even at high tide. When it's low tide, it's extremely calm.

Rainbow Tunnel

Within the town of Mililani, there are pedestrian tunnels that run under Kamehameha Highway and major streets. One of these tunnels was painted like a rainbow from end to end. Though over the years, others have taken artistic license to add to the artwork.

River Ride

Paddling a kayak down the ʻAnahulu River in Haleʻiwa. The river is a tributary from the Koʻolau Mountains, and flows into the Pacific Ocean in near the Haleʻiwa Boat Harbor. The famed Haleʻiwa Bridge, or more commonly known as the Rainbow Bridge is ahead. I paddled under the bridge to the ocean and turned back up the river.

No Soup For You!

On the counter at Taka's Box Lunch stood a figurine of the "Soup Nazi" character from the NBC TV series "Seinfeld". I didn't think there was such a figurine ... but found it pretty funny it was there when I bought breakfast one morning. On a visit to Taka's a few months ago, the Soup Nazi figurine was gone.

The episode, from season six, featured an extremely popular soup take-out restaurant, with strict ordering guidelines. If the owner didn't like the way you ordered, or even had a question, his infamous remark was "No soup for you! Get out!" The catchphrase was mimicked by many, including one of the SportsCenter anchors, when describing a great defensive play.

Stan Sheriff Center

The exterior of the Stan Sheriff Center in the afternoon. Also known as Bankoh Arena, this 10,000 seat arena is on the campus of the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, and home to the Rainbow Warriors and Rainbow Wāhine volleyball and basketball teams. This month is the start of the Rainbow Wāhine volleyball 2025 season.

Pond Gazebo

At the base of Haikū Gardens, is a gazebo that extends over the fishpond.

Softball Diamond

The McKinley High School's Tiger Softball Stadium is surrounded by several high-rise condominiums in Kaka‘ako. We are in the middle of the girls high school softball season in Hawai‘i. This stadium is the hub for the games on O‘ahu, especially for those aired on TV.

Blaisdell Arena

A fish pond encircles the Neal S Blaisdell Arena. A variety of ocean reef fish live in the pond. During the 1970s to the 1990s, there used to be ducks that lived in the pond. 

Mirror Image

Keaweula Sunset

Monsters

Boulders And Tetrapods

Boulders and concrete tetrapods line the ocean side of HNL's Runway 8R, also known as the "Reef Runway". With no real shoreline, this wall protects the runway and taxiways from high surf during south swells. Waves can be seen crashing against the tetrapods and boulders from the other side during the summer, when the waves shift to the southern coastlines.

Makapuʻu Lighthouse

The lighthouse on the cliffs of Makapuʻu Point, as seen from the hiking trail in the state park.

Lānaʻi Lookout

On the east end of Oʻahu, off of Kalanianaʻole Highway, is the Lānaʻi Lookout. This scenic point offers view of the East Oʻahu rocky shoreline. Looking to the southeast on a clear day, the silhouettes of the islands of Molokaʻi, Maui, and Lānaʻi can be seen on the horizon.

The Siren

"The Siren" is a mural that artist Audrey Kawasaki painted for Pow Wow Hawaiʻi 2016, that's on a building in Kakaʻako, at the corner of Pohukaina and Koula Streets. 

Kukuihoʻola Island

Happy New Year!

Kukuihoʻolua Island is located off of Lāʻie Point on Oʻahu's north shore, and is noted for the hole in the middle of the island. During high tides and east swells, it gets battered by waves as seen above.

Kawainui Canal

The Kawainui Canal is an outlet to the Pacific Ocean, that is a tributary of the Maunawili Stream and the Kawainui Marsh in Kailua. The canal has piers for those who live along the canal, and people also standup paddle board.

NFL Kick-off Week

This is the first week of the 2022 National Football League regular season.

In December 2014, we got tickets to a Seattle Seahawks game, versus the Los Angeles Rams at Centurylink Field (now Lumen Field). The game was sold out, and in the temperature was in the mid-to-low 40s. It was a great game, and even better, with the Seahawks winning, 20-16.
