Aloha ‘Oe Jimmy Borges

Local jazz vocalist Jimmy Borges passed away a couple of weeks ago, after a battle with lung cancer. In the photo above, Borges performed several songs with his band prior to the Hawaiian Airlines inaugural flight to JFK. Dubbed Hawai‘i's Frank Sinatra, he was a fixture on the Waikīkī jazz club circuit, also won several Nā Hōkū Hanohano Hawaiian music awards days before his passing. Borges also appeared in both incarnations of the CBS TV series "Hawaii Five-0".

Also, a couple of days ago, Steve Jones, the bassist behind Jimmy Borges, passed away. I remember Steve when he was a Japanese tourist wedding photographer from the late 80s to the mid-90s. Sadly, this event pictured above, was the last time I saw him.
