Breaking Away
Noah "Sio" Bartley (blue 21), a running back from the Kamehameha-Kapālama Warriors, tries to break free from the grasp of Saint Louis Crusaders defender, Jordan-Lee Paredes (red 34), in a 2021 ILH Open Division game at Aloha Stadium. The Warriors eked past the Crusaders, 34-31, to break a 10-game losing streak against the latter. This was also the first, and only time, the Crusaders wore all-red jerseys and pants.
The Hawai‘i high school football season begins this coming week, with a full slate of matchups. Good luck to all the teams in the 2024 season! It will be interesting to see who ends up in the three divisions of the state championships.

Kolea
A young kolea, or golden plover, forages for food. These migratory birds will fly to Hawaiʻi for the winter from Alaska, then back up north for the summer. Unlike other migratory birds that can make stops along the way, kolea will make their migratory flights non-stop.

Shady Spot
This Aloha Air Cargo pilot found a shady spot to relax between flights, and while cargo was off-loaded, and more cargo loaded. I saw him carrying the beach chair and water bottle to the shadow cast by the Boeing 737's tail section.

This C-17A flew from Joint Base Charleston, in South Carolina. The Kalaeloa Airport is used as an overflow airport when the ramp at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam is full.
We also honor those who are serving our country, as May is Military Appreciation Month, and honor those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in protecting our nation's freedoms, as Memorial Day is tomorrow.

The sun light off of the condominium tower in the center of the photo, is a reflection from another condo tower out of frame to the right. The sun is behind the condo tower on the left in the clouds, and it too is getting a reflection on its shade side.
