Drop The Ball!
While we were at the beach one day, we this woman throw a tennis ball in the ocean for her dog to fetch. In today's photo, she commands her dog to drop the ball, after it fetched it from the water. The dog often resisted dropping the ball, and she tugged at it with no avail. The dog would drop the ball when it felt like it. What was even funnier, was that the dog is seen above wearing a child-sized rash guard.

Cameo Appearance
During production of the ABC TV series "Lost", the producers leased Kamaka Air's Beech 18, N231H, for an episode. It included getting a temporary paint job (above) over the blue and yellow Kamaka colors. The maintenance team used tempra paints and floor wax to achieve this look. After a week of filming was completed, the paint was washed off.

On The Rocks
The theme week for August is the "2011 Lantern Floating". As in the past few years, I was part of the broadcast TV crew for the Memorial Day event at Ala Moana Beach Park, and this week will feature seven of the many photos I took during the four days on the set.
Leading off the week, is the scaffold for Camera 3, which was built on this rocky surface. At high tide, the base of the scaffold was under a foot of water. I took this photo shortly after a few of us hoisted up the equipment boxes, then built the camera and tripod. We had to make sure everything was done during low tide.

Flavoring The Shave Ice
One of the workers at the Blue Lotus tent at the KCC Open Market pours fruit-flavored syrup over the mound of shave ice. This is definitely the time of the year for shave ice! Though in Hawai‘i, everyday is a shave ice day ...

Parted Out
This Niu Air Piper Navajo was parted out by another local aviation company. This airframe has reached the end of its useful service life. The remaining carcass will probably meet the scrapper's torch and saw. Unfortunately, for most aircraft that live out their maximum airframe time, this is the fate that awaits them as well.
